February 2012 – A Quick Review

March 20th, 2012

This is a recap of February 2012 in the life that is Swedish Brilliance, admittedly a

little late as the month of March is almost over but time is not in great supply

these days.

I had a meeting with a publishing company that went well but the music is not what

they need right now as their clients were looking for something more bluesy like

The Black Keys but perhaps in the future the needs will change or another company

will represent Swedish Brilliance to be able to get some more exposure.

I did enter a contest and actually won a year of free membership to a music marketing

website as I detailed in a previous post, that was great news and now with everything a

little bit more settled I should work on that aspect more diligently. I am grateful for

everything www.promoteyourmusic.net has taught me so far and I hope this will

be the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship.

I am working on artwork for the CD and the next EP which is due imminently and

my friend Brandon Boyt supplied the photograph for “Quatrain III” and I am still

waiting on the approval from him to use a few more for the online CD booklet.

The CD cover I am working on is a more abstract piece of art that I think

represents the eclectic song selection on the EP’s who are coming together in

“The Quatrain Collection” who combines Quatrain I-III on the 12 track CD.

I have been working on a few bookings to play live but they weren’t confirmed

in February so I leave that for individual posts and the March summary.

The tracklisting for the EP “Quatrain III”

  1. Inside Out Loud
  2. Innocence
  3. I Know You
  4. Sideshow

Music Marketing – A Necessary Evil?

February 20th, 2012

Hello everyone, the title says a lot but I will expand on the thought.
For years every musician was told to write great songs so you can get a record deal and become rich and famous.

Today that model seems like ancient history with only a few record companies left to actually send songs to. Enter everyone and their grandmother becoming an expert in making you famous and rich without those pesky record companies. I have worked on my own marketing and have been trying to decipher the massive amount of information that is available out there about becoming a musicians who can make a decent living. You guys have seen some of the tactics involved that may have gotten you to sign up for the mailing list and my musician friends have all tried something I’ve shared with them to see if it actually works.

I have been helped tremendously by many people but as of late the main source of my information has been coming from a Chris Rockett from Promote Your Music. The reason for the blog post is two fold, if you are a musician you need to check out his site to get some really solid advice at Promote Your Music! The second reason is to be able to enter in the magic world of his Music Marketing Class Room by sharing this with all of you. He just completed more than a months worth of handy tips for you to check out and you may also enter the competition to win a year long membership to the class room.

January 2012 Update from Swedish Brilliance

January 29th, 2012

January is almost over and it’s been hectic to say the least.
The month started with making the plans for the year and starting to set the plan in motion. I got sick but got better for the live show and that went well and there’s another post about the show on the blog.

I reconnected with my friend Rich and we worked on a few tracks, songs that have been laying around not getting much love and at least one will be on the upcoming CD.

The next Quatrain is almost done and the track list will be 1: Inside Out Loud, 2: Innocence, 3: I Know You, and 4: Sideshow. I am excited about the songs and I think you guys will love them. I am using artwork in the form of a photo from the extraordinary photographer and personal friend Brandon Boyt that I hope signifies an ongoing collaboration.

I also want to release a CD with about 6 songs from the Quatrain series and 6 unreleased songs before March so be on the look out for the debut CD which is yet to be titled.

There is also most likely going to be a meeting with a music publishing company in February for a possible representation of the music which is really exciting.

Keep checking in and I hope we will have a great year together.
